Welcome

I will post thoughts here from time to time as a follow-up to class discussions. The site is not designed to be a repository of polished analysis so much as a touchstone for my own research and a model of intellectual curiosity. If E.M. Forster is correct in suggesting that we rarely know what we think until we see what we say, then writing and speaking about American literature ought to be central to our discovery of what it means.

All page citations are taken from the fifth edition of Paul Lauter’s Heath Anthology of American Literature.
